Hair Should Match The Outfit

Taking inspiration from the lovely ladies at this years Golden Globes, we look at wearing your hair in a way that compliments your outfit - not detracts from it

It comes from age learning that less is more as Charlize Theron demonstrates here - the dress has a lot of detail so she lets the dress do the talking by wearing her hair up in a simple messy side chignon.  The overall look is flawless

We have to say, Kate Beckinsale looks simply stunning as usual, she is the optimum of the English Rose.  Here her dress is simple yet effective and again, she has swept her hair up so as not to take the attention away from her gorgeous dress.  She's opted for an over sized tousled bun and this way she avoids too much going on at once.   When we are younger we tend to think we only look our best when our hair is down.  As we grow older, more confident and settle into our own style, we realise that isn't always the case

Somewhat proving that point, at last years Emmys, Glee's Lea Michele (who is at least 10 years younger than Charlize and Kate) showed a great example of how wearing your hair down can ruin an outfit.  The red dress is stunning but the detail is in the shoulders and back  - the effect of which is completely lost with her hair covering them.  Had she worn her hair up, we would of had the full effect of the dress and a knock out, cleaner look overall

You can still wear your hair down and show your outfit off.  Side swept hair is perfect for showing off one shouldered dresses.  Here's me in New York sporting exactly that.  I simply pulled my hair round and secured at the nape of my neck with kirby grips

Back to the Golden Globes; the key is to know which outfits work with hair up and hair down and Zooey Deschanel looks cute as a button in this Prada dress, her hair finishes the look just as any good accessory would

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon is another one who got it right, this elegant dress teamed with tousled hair makes her look effortlessly sexy

And we must say ladies, it's refreshing not to see a streak of fake tan insight, all looked fantastic rocking the pale and interesting look

So remember ladies, you don't always need your hair down in order to Rock Your Crowning Glory
