Plum Is The New Red

Now were into a new year there's no better time to try a new look and the simplest yet most effective way is to change your hair colour.  Going into 2012, red is going to continue to rise in popularity across the celeb world and with us mere mortals!  There are so many different types of red to choose from but here we look at Plum red and how to care for coloured hair

One of the trend setters for this look was Cheryl Cole, once Cheryl got on board with this colour it spread like wild fire.  The key to red hair is choosing a shade that suits your complexion and Cheryl does this perfectly by opting for a darker, plumier red which suits brunettes perfectly

It's not often that TOWIE's Amy Childs would be classed as a trend setter but one thing you have to give the girl is that her hair colour is simply stunning, it suits her so well we'd be hard pressed to imagine her with any other colour - again she wears a plum shade of red.  So, after having 6 years of my hair being it's natural colour and being inspired a la Cheryl and Amy I decided it was time for a change

So here's me au natruel - I love my hair colour but like I said, I've kept it this colour for 6 years so I decided to spice it up and Rock My Crowning Glory once more!

Ta da - like Amy and Cheryl I went for a violet shade rather than a harsh red, this really does suit dark hair

It even looks different shades in different lights - I love it here as it looks even more Plum.  Of course, all this is wasted if your hair isn't maintained and treated properly - especially with red hair as it's the fastest to fade.  If you are happy with your results you'll want to maintain the effects as long as possible so you will need to invest in the right products

For radiant brunettes and racy reds, this TIGI Bed Head Colour Goddess Gift Set features an amazing trio of treats for your tresses that lock in your colour while reconditioning and strengthening to leave you with super vibrant hair. These products have really helped maintain my colour and after several washes it's showing no signs of fading.  Packs are also available for blondes and include Shampoo, Conditioner and leave in Conditioner

You should use a hair treatment once a week and even think of using a hydrating mask a few days before having your hair coloured.  We've said it before and were say it again - if you love your hair then you need MoroccanOil in your life. A therapeutic remedy for colour treated and chemically damaged hair, Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask penetrates deep into the hair shaft to help prevent damage caused by chemicals and other environmental elements like the sun and the wind.

Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask is particularly effective for fine, brittle hair as well as over processed and excessively damaged hair.  This mask instantly got rid of the dry feeling all newly dyed hair has and made mine feel it's normally soft self again
